Celtic set to raid Tottenham for defender after Champions League success

Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava are reportedly closing in on a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender, Kevin Wimmer.

The Austrian centre-back has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho and is now surplus to requirements at the north London club.

According to reports in Slovakia, Slovan Bratislava are in advanced talks with Tottenham over a deal to sign Wimmer on a permanent basis.

The 27-year-old has not featured for Tottenham since the Carabao Cup defeat to Colchester United in September 2019.

Wimmer joined Tottenham from Koln in 2015 and has made 19 appearances for the club.

He has also been capped 11 times by Austria.

Slovan Bratislava are currently top of the Slovakian league and are on course to win their first title since 2014.

The club has already made a number of signings this summer, including former Celtic midfielder, Stefan Johansen.

Wimmer would be a welcome addition to the Slovan Bratislava squad and would provide them with some much-needed experience at the back.

The Austrian is a good passer of the ball and is strong in the air.

He would be a good fit for Slovan Bratislava's style of play and would help them compete in the Champions League.

Tottenham are said to be open to selling Wimmer and are looking to recoup the £18 million they paid for him in 2015.

Slovan Bratislava are not the only club interested in signing Wimmer, with German club Schalke 04 also reportedly keen on a deal.

However, Slovan Bratislava are confident that they can land the defender and are hopeful of completing a deal before the end of the transfer window.
