LSU Wins College World Series Championship

Tigers Beat Florida 18-4 in Game 3

Louisiana State University's (LSU) baseball team captured the 2023 College World Series championship on Monday night, defeating the University of Florida 18-4 in Game 3 of the best-of-three series.

The Tigers, who entered the game needing a win to avoid elimination, erupted for 10 runs in the first three innings to take control of the contest. LSU added eight more runs over the final six innings to secure the victory and claim their seventh national title in program history.

Sophomore outfielder Dylan Crews led the way for LSU, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs. Freshman shortstop Mason Ware also homered and drove in three runs, while junior designated hitter Trey Morgan added three hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, senior right-hander Paul Skenes earned the win for LSU, allowing just two runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. Sophomore reliever Riley Cooper pitched the final 3.2 innings, surrendering two runs on four hits.

Florida, which was seeking its second national championship in program history, was led by sophomore outfielder Wyatt Langford, who went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Junior infielder Colby Halter and freshman designated hitter Deric Fabian each added two hits for the Gators.

LSU's victory marks the end of a remarkable season for the Tigers, who finished with a 48-22 overall record. It is the program's first national championship since 2015 and its first under head coach Jay Johnson, who is in his second season at the helm.

With this victory, LSU becomes the fourth school to win at least seven national championships in college baseball, joining Southern California, Texas, and Vanderbilt.
